Effect of lens extraction in pseudoexfoliation of the lens capsule.

چکیده
It is a matter of considerable clinical interest whether removal of the lens causes regression of pseudoexfoliation of the lens capsule. Before the paper by Dvorak-Theobald (I954), pseudoexfoliation of the lens capsule was often confused with true exfoliation, and it was suggested that lens extraction caused the condition to disappear (Irvine, I940; Gradle and Sugar, I947). After this paper appeared the effect of lens extraction on pseudoexfoliation was in doubt as the origin of the pseudoexfoliative material was uncertain.

Detection of Herpes Simplex Virus DNA in Pseudoexfoliation Syndrome
Background: Pseudoexfoliation syndrome is one of the most common identifiable causes of open angle glaucoma. It has unknown etiology and pathogenesis. Infection, possibly viral, is one of the proposed pathogenic mechanisms in this condition. In the present study the presence of herpes simplex virus (HSV) in specimens of anterior lens capsule of patients with pseudoexfoliation syndrome has been ...
متن کاملPrecapsular film on the aging human lens: precursor of pseudoexfoliation?
In many older patients we observed a layer of subtle opacification on the anterior lens capsule, appearing as a ground glass film biomicroscopically. This precapsular film (PCF) could be uniform but often had radial grey lines in the mid zone, holes in the paracentral region, and was occasionally rolled up in strings. Lens capsular material obtained at cataract extraction was studied in patient...

EHUD I. ASSIA, MD The combination of advanced glaucoma and phacodonesis with lens subluxation suggests pseudoexfoliation (PXF) syndrome, which needs to be ruled out. Another potential cause is high myopia, in which significant phacodonesis is not uncommon. Cataract extraction is certainly indicated, not only to remove the opaque media but also because of the patient’s glaucoma. Anterior displac...
متن کاملTreatment of ophidism-induced bilateral canine cataract by extracapsular lens extraction and intraocular lens implantation
The aim of this study was to report a new cause of cataract, namely snake bite induced cataract in a dog. A 3-year-old male mongrel dog was referred to our clinic for the assessment of cataract in both eyes. The dog was bitten by a snake nearly 4 months ago. A 40 dioptre acrylic lens with 13 mm haptics was implanted into the lens capsule. In the left eye, posterior synechia was detected in the ...
متن کاملTrabeculotomy in pseudoexfoliation of the lens capsule.
Trabeculotomy was performed on 12 eyes of 11 patients with glaucoma associated with pseudoexfoliation of the lens capsule. Pressure was lowered in all eyes, in 10 eyes to 15 mmHg or less, 7 with no medication but 3 with medication. A subconjunctival bleb was present in 5 patients but was not necessary for a good result. These results suggest that the raised intraocular pressure which often occu...
